Roberto Rizza is Full Professor of the Sociology of Economic Processes and Labor at the University of Bologna. He is a member of the Department of Sociology and Economic Law. His main field are the transformation of work, the labor market and public policy from an international, national and local comparative perspective. He is the Vice-Director of the review “Sociologia del lavoro”. He is currently coordinating the Italian research group for the international project “Determinants of Retirement Decisions in Europe and the United States: A Cross-National Comparison of Institutional, Firm-level and Individual Factors”.


Active policies and passive policies for the labor market. The European continental-model and the Anglo-Saxon model of labor policy. The reforms of the Italian labor market: the debate on the flexibility of employment contracts. The European Employment Strategy, the Lisbon process and their impact on national policies. Industrial relations, the reform of the bargaining and social dialogue at European level. The approach of flexicurity and its ability to spread in different European labor markets.
