BIO

Dr. Alexander Groh is Professor of Finance and Director of the Entrepreneurial Finance Research Centre at EMLYON Business School, France. He has held visiting positions at The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain, and INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France. His research focuses on VC and PE, and includes valuation issues, performance measurement and socio-economic determinants for the development of vibrant VC and PE markets. His papers have been published in the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Corporate Finance, the Journal of International Money and Finance, Corporate Governance: An International Review, the European Financial Management Journal, the Journal of Alternative Investments, the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, the Emerging Markets Review, and in Venture Capital, among others. He has been involved in management training courses for the European Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (EVCA), and has worked for Quadriga Capital, a Frankfurt based Private Equity fund, since 1996.
Dr. Groh gained his PhD from Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany, where he also studied Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration.

COURSES

The objective of this course is to undertake a study of fixed income securities and corporate securities available to firms to finance investments. Participants will be familiar with a wide range of fixed income securities, the ways in which these can be valued, optimal methods of asset allocation and new issues in corporate finance. Participants will learn how to value securities with cash flows that are sensitive to movements in interest rates and how to determine the optimal allocation among financial assets. Likewise, participants will become familiar with the valuation of stock and hybrid securities (e.g., convertible bonds).
